Female-specific mood disorders

Meir Steiner is Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences and Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at McMaster University, Canada. He is also the Founding Director of the Women's Health Concerns Clinic at St. Joseph's Hospital, Hamilton. His primary areas of research and publication are the pathophysiology and psychopathology of mood disorders related to women's reproductive cyclicity. He is editor-in-chief of Archives of Women's Mental Health and is the immediate past president and the development officers of the North American Society for Psychosocial Obstetrics and Gynaecology and the President Elect of the Canadian College of Neuropsychopharmacology.

Abstract 

This contribution covers sex differences in mood disorders, menarche and mood disorders in adolescence, the aetiology and treatment of premenstrual dysphoria, postpartum depression, the perimenopause and menopausal symptoms and treatment.
