Mood disorders in primary care
Abstract
The majority of patients with mental health problems are treated in primary care alone. This article discusses the epidemiology, diagnosis and management of mood disorders in primary care. Patient and doctor factors affecting recognition, somatization and screening are discussed. The article also discusses the latest recommendations for the management of depression in primary care using a stepped care model.
